Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

What is EFT?

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), often referred to as “tapping,” is a powerful self-help and therapeutic tool that combines principles of ancient acupressure with modern psychology. It involves gently tapping on specific energy meridian points on the body while focusing on emotional issues, negative thoughts, or physical discomforts.

EFT works to calm the nervous system, release emotional blocks, and restore balance to the body’s energy flow. By addressing the mind-body connection, it offers a holistic approach to resolving emotional pain, limiting beliefs, and even physical symptoms. EFT is considered an Energy Psychology modality.

How Does EFT Work?

EFT is based on the idea that negative emotions and experiences create disruptions in the body’s energy system, which manifest as emotional or physical discomfort. By tapping on key meridian points, EFT helps:

  1. Acknowledge the Issue: The process begins by identifying the emotional or physical concern and creating a setup statement, such as:
“Even though I feel [emotion/issue], I deeply and completely accept myself.”
  2. Focus on the Feeling: Clients focus on the issue while tapping on specific points, such as the side of the hand, top of the head, and other meridian points.
  3. Release Energy Blocks: Tapping sends calming signals to the brain, particularly the amygdala, reducing the stress response and allowing the energy system to rebalance.
  4. Integrate New Perspectives: As the emotional intensity decreases, clients can shift their focus toward positive beliefs or affirmations, reinforcing healing and empowerment.
